Using the AI Search to Create List View Filters with Natural Language

Overview

The AI Search allows you to create powerful list view filters simply by describing what you want in natural language. Instead of manually building complex conditions, you can ask the system to “show me open items assigned to me” or “filter to tasks due this month,” and the AI translates your request into an actionable filter.

This feature helps users work faster, avoid mistakes in manually-built filters, and discover data more intuitively.

 

When to Use the AI Search 

Use the AI Filter when you want to:

• Quickly narrow down a large list without clicking through multiple filter menus
• Use everyday language instead of building advanced filter logic
• Experiment with different views to explore your data
• Save time creating frequently-used filtered views

 

How It Works

The AI Search takes a natural-language request, interprets what fields and conditions are relevant, and automatically generates a structured filter behind the scenes. You can edit the filter after it’s generated or save it as a reusable view.

Examples of natural language that the AI can understand:

• “Only show high-priority items.”
• “Tasks assigned to Brian that are due next week.”
• “Tickets created in the past 30 days.”

 

How to Use the AI Search

• Open the List View
  • Navigate to the list you want to filter. 
• Select the AI Filter Button, or Create a New Filter
  • Once you are in the list view you want to create a filter for, either click the AI button, or you can press the filter icon, then press New.
• Enter a Natural Language Request
  • 
  • Type what you're looking for in the AI Search Box. Once you're happy with your prompt, press + Generate Filter.
• Review the Generated Filter
  • The AI will convert your request into a structured filter (e.g., field + operator + value).
• Apply the Filter
  • Click Search to update the list.
• (Optional) Save the View

If you want to reuse the filter:

• Enter a Filter ID.
• Choose to either save the filter as Public or Private.
• Select Save.

 

Tips for Writing Effective Natural Language Filters

Be specific with time frames

• “last 7 days”
• “next month”
• “this quarter”

Reference field names if possible

• “status = completed”
• “Priority is high.”

Include operators naturally

• “greater than $5,000”
• “before June 1.”
• “not started”

Keep each request to one main idea

• If you include multiple ideas, the AI will attempt to interpret them, but may create more conditions than needed.
